- In a large pot, heat 2 tablespoons of neutral oil over medium heat. Add diced onion and sauté for 5-8 minutes, until translucent.

- Add rinsed green split peas and vegetable broth, bring to a boil, then cover and reduce heat to simmer for 20-25 minutes.
- Introduce cubed potatoes and diced carrots, pour in liquid smoke, and continue cooking uncovered for another 20-25 minutes.
