Ingredients

For the Filling
  • 1 pound shrimp peeled and deveined
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 stalks green onions finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon ginger minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
For the Wrappers
  • 16 pieces wonton wrappers thin and crispy
  • 1 large egg beaten
For Frying
  • 2-3 inches oil for frying
Optional Enhancements
  • 1 teaspoon chili flakes for spice
  • 1 cup cheese optional
  • 1 cup fresh herbs like cilantro or basil
  • 1 cup chopped vegetables such as bell peppers or carrots

Equipment

  • deep pan
  • mixing bowl
  • slotted spoon

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Finely chop the green onions and mince the garlic. In a mixing bowl, combine the shrimp, garlic, ginger, green onions, salt, and pepper. Let this mixture marinate for about 15 minutes.
  2. Heat a deep pan over medium heat with enough oil for frying (about 2-3 inches deep). Setup wonton wrappers on a clean surface. Place a spoonful of shrimp filling at the center of each wrapper. Brush the edges with beaten egg and fold to seal, pressing out any air.
  3. Gently lower a few wontons into the hot oil, frying for 3 to 4 minutes until golden brown. Use a slotted spoon to remove them and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
  4. Arrange the fried wonton-wrapped shrimp on a platter and serve hot with dipping sauces like sweet chili or soy sauce.
