Preparation and Baking
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a saucepan, melt 4 tablespoons of butter. Stir in 1 cup of brown sugar until dissolved.
  3. Slice 3-4 bananas and arrange them at the bottom of the cake pan. Pour caramel over the bananas.
  4. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Cream together the granulated sugar and eggs, then add buttermilk and vanilla.
  6. Fold dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
  7. Pour batter over bananas and bake for 35-40 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. Cool in the pan for 10-15 minutes, then flip the cake onto a plate.
