Preparation and Baking
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
- In a saucepan, melt 4 tablespoons of butter. Stir in 1 cup of brown sugar until dissolved.
- Slice 3-4 bananas and arrange them at the bottom of the cake pan. Pour caramel over the bananas.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Cream together the granulated sugar and eggs, then add buttermilk and vanilla.
- Fold dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
- Pour batter over bananas and bake for 35-40 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool in the pan for 10-15 minutes, then flip the cake onto a plate.
