  • 1 cup Butter Softened
  • 1/2 cup Vegetable Oil Can substitute with melted coconut oil
  • 1 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1/2 cup Powdered Sugar Sifted for best results
  • 1 tbsp Water
  • 2 large Eggs Room temperature
  • 4 cups All-Purpose Flour Can substitute with gluten-free blend
  • 1 tsp Baking Soda
  • 1/2 tsp Cream of Tartar Optional
  • 1/2 tsp Salt Essential for flavor
  • 1/2 cup Easter Sanding Sugar For coating
For the Frosting
  • 1/2 cup Butter Softened
  • 2 cups Powdered Sugar Sift if lumpy
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract Optional but recommended
  • 3 tbsp Heavy Cream Can substitute with milk
  • 3 drops Food Coloring Optional
  • 1/4 cup Decorative Easter Eggs Optional for decoration

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine softened butter, vegetable oil, granulated sugar, and powdered sugar. Beat on low speed, then high speed for 2-3 minutes.
  3. Add water and room-temperature eggs to the sugar mixture and beat for one minute.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, baking soda, cream of tartar, and salt. Gradually add to the wet mixture.
  5. Form large cookie balls from the dough and roll in Easter sanding sugar. Place on baking sheets, spaced 3 inches apart.
  6. Gently flatten the tops with a glass dipped in sanding sugar.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are light golden brown.
  8. While cooling, prepare the frosting by beating softened butter and powdered sugar until smooth. Add vanilla extract and heavy cream.
  9. Add food coloring and frost cooled cookies. Garnish with decorative Easter eggs or sprinkles.
