  • non-stick frying pan

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions for Golden-brown French Toast Roll-Ups
  1. In a shallow dish, combine 4 large eggs, 1 cup of milk, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, and 2 tablespoons of sugar. Whisk together until smooth.
  2. Take 8 slices of your chosen bread and use a rolling pin to gently flatten each slice until it becomes pliable and thin.
  3. Spread about 1-2 tablespoons of cream cheese or your preferred filling over each flattened slice, leaving a small border around the edges.
  4. Starting from one end, tightly roll each slice of bread into a cylinder and dip the outside of each cylinder into the prepared custard.
  5. Heat a non-stick frying pan over medium heat and add 2 tablespoons of butter. Cook the roll-ups seam side down for about 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown.
  6. Once cooked, remove from the pan and transfer to a serving plate. Drizzle with maple syrup and sprinkle with powdered sugar if desired.

Notes

Choose bread that’s slightly stale or day-old for easier rolling. Keep fillings to a light layer to prevent spills during cooking. Allow the roll-ups to fry undisturbed for a minute before turning for a crispy finish. If making a large batch, keep finished roll-ups warm in the oven while frying the rest.
