Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly coat a baking dish with cooking spray.
  2. Tear the croissants in half and layer them cut-side up in the baking dish. Scatter the diced ham over the croissant layers.
  3. Sprinkle the shredded Swiss or Gruyere cheese evenly over the croissants and ham.
  4. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, half and half (or whole milk), Dijon mustard, and salt until smooth. Pour over the layers.
  5. Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil and chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes or overnight.
  6. Remove the foil and bake for 20 minutes covered. Then uncover and bake for another 10-15 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Let the casserole rest for about 5 minutes before serving. Dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with maple syrup.
