- In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper, mixing until well incorporated. Form the mixture into two evenly-sized patties, approximately ¾ inch thick. Set aside.
- Heat a skillet over medium heat and add a drizzle of oil. Place the patties in the hot skillet and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side, until browned and firm. Remove and let rest.
- In a medium bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with shredded cheddar or pepper jack until smooth and fluffy. Set aside.
- On a slice of thick bread, spread a layer of the cheese mixture. Place one patty on top, then layer roasted jalapeños and caramelized onions. Cap it with another slice of bread.
- Melt butter in the skillet over medium-low heat. Place the sandwich in the skillet, pressing down gently. Toast for about 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.
- Slice the Jalapeño Popper Patty Melt in half and serve immediately. Drizzle BBQ sauce if desired.
