For the Burger Patties
  • 1 pound Ground Beef (80/20) High-fat content ensures juicy burgers.
  • 1 teaspoon Salt Vital for enhancing flavor.
For the Cheese
  • 4 slices Cheddar Cheese Or try Swiss or pepper jack for a twist.
For the Burger Buns
  • 4 units Burger Buns Opt for whole-grain or gluten-free if desired.
For the Fresh Toppings
  • 2 cups Shredded Lettuce Spinach or arugula also work well.
  • 1 medium Tomato Avocado is a creamy substitute.
  • 1 cup Pickles Feel free to replace with jalapeños.
For the Sauces
  • ¼ cup Ketchup Swap for BBQ sauce for a smoky flavor.
  • 2 tablespoons Mustard Aioli can elevate the burger.

Equipment

  • Griddle or cast-iron skillet

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Divide 1 pound of high-fat ground beef into four loose balls, about the size of a golf ball. Sprinkle lightly with salt.
  2. Heat your griddle or skillet over high heat for about 5 minutes until hot. Place beef balls on the surface and smash each into a flat patty, about ½ inch thick.
  3. Once patties have a nice crust, gently flip and place a slice of cheese on each. Cook for 1-2 more minutes until cheese melts and burger is cooked through.
  4. Toast burger buns cut-side down on the hot griddle for about 1 minute until golden brown.
  5. Assemble burgers starting with the base bun, add a cheesy patty, then layer on lettuce, tomato, pickles, ketchup, and mustard. Finish with the top bun.
