- Divide 1 pound of high-fat ground beef into four loose balls, about the size of a golf ball. Sprinkle lightly with salt.
- Heat your griddle or skillet over high heat for about 5 minutes until hot. Place beef balls on the surface and smash each into a flat patty, about ½ inch thick.
- Once patties have a nice crust, gently flip and place a slice of cheese on each. Cook for 1-2 more minutes until cheese melts and burger is cooked through.
- Toast burger buns cut-side down on the hot griddle for about 1 minute until golden brown.
- Assemble burgers starting with the base bun, add a cheesy patty, then layer on lettuce, tomato, pickles, ketchup, and mustard. Finish with the top bun.
