Meat Sauce Preparation
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add ground beef and Italian sausage, browning until cooked, approximately 5-7 minutes.
- Stir in diced onion and sauté until soft, about 3-4 minutes.
- Mix in minced garlic, crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, and seasonings. Simmer uncovered for 25-30 minutes.
Noodle Cooking
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a rolling boil. Add lasagna noodles and cook until al dente, about 8-10 minutes.
- Drain the noodles and lay them flat to prevent sticking.
Cheese Filling Preparation
- In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, grated Parmesan cheese, shredded mozzarella cheese, salt, black pepper, and parsley if desired. Stir until creamy.
Lasagna Assembly
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Spread a thin layer of meat sauce in a 9x13 baking dish.
- Lay down lasagna noodles, followed by half of the cheese filling, and top with more meat sauce. Repeat layers, finishing with sauce and mozzarella cheese.
Baking
- Cover the lasagna with foil and bake for 35 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
- Allow to cool for 15 minutes before slicing.
