Step-by-Step Instructions for Candied Yams
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Gather your ingredients and equipment.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine butter, dark brown sugar, orange juice, bourbon, cinnamon stick, nutmeg, and salt. Bring to a boil, reduce to a simmer for 10 minutes, and remove the cinnamon stick.
  3. Peel and slice the yams into ½-inch rounds and set aside.
  4. Grease a 13" x 9" baking dish with the remaining butter. Layer yam slices slightly overlapping.
  5. Pour the syrup over the yams and cover with aluminum foil.
  6. Bake covered for 30 minutes, then remove foil for the next steps.
