Ingredients
  

For the Casserole
  • 1 cup Bacon reserve 1/4 cup of the grease for cooking
  • 1 lb Ground Italian Sausage cooked and crumbled before adding
  • 4 cups Russet Potatoes thinly sliced
  • 1 medium White Onion can substitute with yellow onion
  • 2 tablespoons Garlic Paste or use fresh minced garlic
  • 2 cups Kale can substitute with spinach
  • 1/3 cup Flour all-purpose flour
  • 4 cups Chicken Broth low-sodium
  • 1 cup Heavy Whipping Cream or half-and-half for a lighter option
  • 1 large Egg tempered before adding
  • 1 cup Parmesan Cheese can mix in mozzarella for more cheesiness
  • to taste Salt & Pepper for seasoning
For Additional Toppings
  • 1/2 cup Extra Parmesan Cheese sprinkle on top before baking
  • 1 teaspoon Red Pepper Flakes for added heat

Method
 

Cooking Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Prepare your greased 9x13" baking dish and gather all ingredients.
  2. Layer the thinly sliced russet potatoes evenly in the greased baking dish.
  3. Sprinkle the cooked and crumbled ground Italian sausage over the potatoes, followed by crispy bacon bits.
  4. In a skillet, heat reserved bacon grease over medium heat. Add diced white onion and garlic paste, sauté for 2-3 minutes until soft.
  5. Stir in chopped kale and cook for 2-3 minutes until wilted.
  6. Sprinkle flour over the mixture, stirring for 1 minute, then gradually whisk in chicken broth until slightly thickened.
  7. Stir in heavy whipping cream, then temper the egg and whisk it back in along with half of the Parmesan cheese.
  8. Pour the creamy sauce over the layers in the baking dish, cover tightly with foil, and bake for 50-60 minutes.
  9. Remove foil, sprinkle remaining Parmesan cheese on top, and bake uncovered for an additional 25-30 minutes.
  10. Let it rest for about 10 minutes before serving.
