Cooking Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Prepare your greased 9x13" baking dish and gather all ingredients.
- Layer the thinly sliced russet potatoes evenly in the greased baking dish.
- Sprinkle the cooked and crumbled ground Italian sausage over the potatoes, followed by crispy bacon bits.
- In a skillet, heat reserved bacon grease over medium heat. Add diced white onion and garlic paste, sauté for 2-3 minutes until soft.
- Stir in chopped kale and cook for 2-3 minutes until wilted.
- Sprinkle flour over the mixture, stirring for 1 minute, then gradually whisk in chicken broth until slightly thickened.
- Stir in heavy whipping cream, then temper the egg and whisk it back in along with half of the Parmesan cheese.
- Pour the creamy sauce over the layers in the baking dish, cover tightly with foil, and bake for 50-60 minutes.
- Remove foil, sprinkle remaining Parmesan cheese on top, and bake uncovered for an additional 25-30 minutes.
- Let it rest for about 10 minutes before serving.
