- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 9 x 5 inch loaf pan by lightly greasing it.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened unsalted butter and sugar until light and fluffy (2-3 minutes).
- Mash the overripe bananas into the creamed butter and sugar mixture until desired consistency.
- Add the beaten eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and sea salt, mixing until well combined.
- Gently fold in the unbleached all-purpose flour and baking soda until just combined.
- If using, add the chopped walnuts and stir gently until just combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and bake for 55-65 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let the banana bread cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
