  1. Brown the chicken by melting butter over medium heat and browning chicken legs for 8-10 minutes.
  2. Sauté the vegetables, adding onion, carrots, and celery for 5 minutes, then garlic for another minute.
  3. Create the broth by adding chicken legs back, pouring in chicken broth, and adding seasonings. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  4. Add potatoes and barley, reduce heat, and simmer for 25-30 minutes until potatoes are fork-tender.
